In memory of our dear sweet Moses!

In our family a dog isn't just a dog they are family.

I considered Moses my empty nest syndrome dog (son child) .  We had a 14 year old golden retriever named Honey and I was afraid I would soon lose her as she was getting on in years.  My daughter went off to college and my son enlisted in the Marines.  I don't think I was ready for the quietness of the home.  I started looking at puppies online and I was hooked on getting a golden doodle.  I called a PA golden doodle ad I saw and the next day we went puppy looking.  Yes we rescued Moses from a Amish breeding farm, someone has to right.  When we got there they only had boys left and I wanted a girl.  All of the puppies took off running when we arrived but this one little boy.  He saw us and came running over and sat at our feet as to say I'm ready to go home.  How could I not fall in love with this little fur ball.  On the way home we were trying to decide on a name.  The breeder gave us a Christian CD to play to help settle him at night as they played music for the puppies so they would be calm.  In the truck he was crying so we popped the CD in and he settled right away and the music had something about Moses.   Moses it was!!

Honey our 16 year old sweet heart "Honey" wasn't at first having anything to do with the new intruder.  I had to lay her down (dominance) and let Moses sniff and crawl over her for her to accept him.  It wasn't long and they became the best of friends.  They took walks together, swam together and I to this day believe this is why Honey lived to be a ripe old age of 16.  He kept her young.

I believe Moses was the smartest and most Human like dog we ever had.  I have never seen a more intelligent and mischievously sneaky dog.    I believe he knew the human language quite well.  Many times I would have to spell a word so he wouldn't know what I was saying.  If I said the word bath the next thing I knew I would find him sitting in the bathtub just patiently waiting lol.

Moses liked to take things and get you on a game of chase.  I was blow drying my hair and had my glasses sitting on the counter when I looked up to see them dangling from his mouth and he was in a taunting stance ready for the chase.  Well he chomped down and took off and this was the end result.

I know who snitched this ornament off of the tree!

Sitting patiently watching his bed in the washing machine.  He couldn't figure out why I put it in there.  He wouldn't leave the laundry room.

Someone snitched a whole bag of snacks!!

"The Chicken Thief"
On the farm we had a burn barrel.  I found this piece of chicken on my bedroom floor that he apparently dug out of the burn barrel.

You guessed it he likes cookies!  I did not give them to him he just helps his self!!!

Shoo fly pie snitch!

I could go on and on with the mischievous stories  but he wasn't always a handful most  times he was the most loveable fella I could have ever ask for.  He would crawl into my lap to be held daily and I would have to sing him his biggie baby boy song that I sung to him from the time he was a puppy.

"Freckle Butt"  In the spring of 2017 Moses was diagnosed with cancer and he even had to have his tail amputated.  I thought we would lose him that year and we were told he had cancer through out him and so we took him home and just loved him to pieces.  I am thankful we were given 3 years more!

"Saying Goodbye"

The pic below is the last pic of my boy and as you can see he wasn't even able to eat a treat.  The cancer had taken over his mouth and throat.  I knew the day was coming and it was out of my love for you I made the most painful decision I have ever made.  It broke my heart into a million pieces that day and still but I did it out of my love for you sweet boy.  You will always be in my heart!  I miss you!

My little memorial for my boys!  I dreamed the next night of Deanie and Moses together again and I know they are taking their daily walk abouts and waiting for me to join them again someday!

Just a little slide show of a few more pics of Moses!
To all my dog loving friends who understand the loss of a furry family member thank you for all of your kind words over these last two weeks.

Wendy. I’m so very sorry for your loss. I have two little girls that will be14 in the spring. They are just as you said! New babies to help fill that void in life. They have been such comfort in some bleak times. I thank God for them every day. I truly believe we will see them again when our time comes. You have my prayers and sympathy. You are one remarkable woman! God bless💕🙏💕

We all have one or two if we're lucky special dogs. They each bring their own special things with them.
Moses was always a special boy to many.
When they leave us, they take a piece of our heart with them and leave us a piece of theirs. If we are lucky when we die we have cared for enough wonderful animals we die with a dogs heart, always love being and kind.
Blessings on Dean and Moses. Hugs and blessings for you. This was a beautiful tribute to Moses.

Thank you for sharing this made me cry. I will miss the stories of all his mischief. When I think of him I always had the image of him with the paint brush. I’m glad you were blessed with the extra time with him.

My Max is our child we do not have children. He had his pillow on his neck just like your Moses. We just lost our cat and my husband just had heart surgery. Max has had diabetes and Cushings for 4 years. I could hardly read your story because your story is my story. Max was supposed to live 4 months and it is now four years. We too have to spell words out. Our dog is part poodle and part bichon. Our last dog was a pug we had to put down Christmas Eve. My husband is extremely quiet; Max talks more than him. Maxes days are numbered and in a way I am starting to pull away. I don’t know how I will ever let Max go. I can’t talk anymore because I can’t see through my tears. God Bless You

Our fur babies are so sweet & innocent. They depend on us & while we take care of them, we get taken in. As I read your story through my blurry teary eyes, I can understand because we've been there & we have a 12 year old lab who let's us live with him. He calls the shots! I don't know how these dogs can take over us like they do, but they use our hearts. 💞❤💞No doubt in my mind that these fur babies are gifts from God!!🙏🙏😘

That was a beautiful memorial to a worthy subject. I feel sorry for people who have never known such heartbreak because it follows that they have never known that particular bond. Virtual hugs sent.
