My © Pebble Pal 's First Ever Pattern Release!!

1/19/2018

It's been a few years now since I first introduced my © Pebble Pal creations.  I received such an overwhelming response from them and I couldn't make them fast enough.  I thought I would share how my idea came about.  I was lounging in the hot tub on a early spring  day when I was watching my husband and son put down Rock/Pebble landscaping around the house.  I kept seeing all these shapes and figures in the pebbles.  It was that day I began sculpting my first creation.

Picture

You didn't think I would post a pic of me in the hot tub did you??  LOL!

Picture

On this particular day we went Pebble hunting at our local amish nursery here in PA. I didn't want to keep robbing the ones out of the flowers beds.   Oh it was like being in the candy store.

I like sending a little something special in all of my packages for those who purchase my creations, so we went to Mr.Ed's candy store and picked up rock candy to send along with the pebble pals.  If you have never had one they are all sugar!!!

I wanted to have a special logo just for my "Pebble Pals" creations so I had Jeremy Ruby a local graphic designer create one for me.  He  also designed my business logo on the right.  He is a very talented designer and if you need any work done just send me a message I would be glad to give you his contact info.

The picture above is the first "Pebble Pal" creation I believe I ever posted online.  Yes, believe it or not they are made from rocks/ Pebbles.  These make the cutest paper weights for on your desk or just to sit around.  I made the larger version at the time for someone who ask if I could make a bigger one.  I wouldn't want to ship the larger ones as the weight of the large rocks would cost a fortune in postage.

So, to date my Pebble Pals are the one creation I have kept © and I have not released any patterns.  I had so many ideas with these.  Do I license them??  Do I make a book??  or simply do I share and start making patterns??

I have decided to share my first pattern and it is a very special one.  "Lil Weezer"  named after my grand daughter who loves possums!!  Also, Possums were the start of my art career when I won 1st place of a drawing and her mother possum in elementary school.  I thought it was fitting this be the first ever "Pebble Pal" release!!

Here is the link to the listing for the Instant download pattern only!!

Below is a pic of just a few of the Possum  © Pebble Pals I made last year.  I believe there may be 2 or 3 of them still in the etsy shop.  They do make great paper weights!

Old Pictures frames/glass what to do???

1/18/2018

This NOT my best work of art to say the least but I don't mind sharing my trials and errors.  We can never grow as an artist without trying.  We only get better by practice.  My great great great  grandmother loved to paint on glass.  I happen to own two pieces she created.  I have much admiration for those who paint backwards, forwards lol on glass.  It is a challenge to say the least!!  Much different surface to try and shade, float etc..  I struggled greatly doing this piece.  I must keep practicing!!!

Picture

I painted the flag on the backside of the glass about 10 years ago on the left side.  The pic on the right was my grandmothers frame on glass she painted.  Notice in those days no shadings.  I also have a very huge piece of glass in my attic about 3' X 4" she painted, but when my mother owned it, somehow  it had gotten broken. So it remains there for safe keeping.  Maybe someday I will repair it and hang it.

It's really a challenge to reverse paint and on a glass surface as you have to get your mind thinking backwards and these days my mind sometimes has troubles going forwards.  LOL!

I picked a project that I thought would be fairly simple to create bawahaha boy was I wrong!!!  I have many boo boo's so to speak!  I just couldn't get my shades and floats to go the way I wanted.  You also have to be very careful as you can't use a wipe to remove your mistakes or you wipe off the glass prep and paint aghhhh!

Picture
Picture

I choose the smaller 8 X 10 frame and cleaned the glass well.  I taped a pencil sketch of one of my designs to the glass and began with the sculpting first haha what you thought I was just painting??  I love the look of 3-D and bringing a project to life.

Picture

So my struggles began!  Not exactly how it would have looked if I had done it on  canvas or a wood surface, but hey I'm learning!  I did use  Kleenex  to create the wood look.

Picture

So to cover up my mistakes I added stencils here and there.  It is mixed media you know lol! I also added some bling to the frame with sculpted roses and hearts.

Remember everything doesn't have to be perfect!!  Just keep trying.  I will be trying this again someday when I recover from this experience!

Reminder-  Today January 18th 10 am eastern time is the big etsy day sale!  Hope to see you there.

Blessings !

Welcome to the "Ham House"

1/17/2018

If you love piggies then your going to love the "Ham House."    This piece is constructed all with quikwood and lots of it!  I think here and there I may have to add a few more houses to this little series of houses.  I don't have patterns for these but was ask if I would consider doing them in a class.  I could do workshops and no patterns.  The Hen house I posted the other day could probably be done in one day sculpt but this Ham House would be a 2 day sculpt.   I just need to know if your interested??

Note- This piece is not going up for sale, as it is going to someone very special!

Picture

The stones on the house are all  painstaking  sculpted one by one.   Hmmmm they are offering free bacon bits and I'm not sure that's a good thing or not.  Does the piggie on the tree swing with her pinwheel remind you of anyone?? weeeeee!  I couldn't resist. Her name is "Maple".  Looks like two piggies are stuck in the doorway one going in and the other on top trying to come out.  This house also has a electric light.

Picture

Yes we have a little smoked Ham hanging out in the chimney smoking lol!  His name is "Hickory"!!

Picture

I hope this little house brings a smile to your face and brightens your day!

Blessings and don't forget to hug a cute little piggie today!

I posted this Free sculpt only picture tutorial "Bunny Plant Poke" about two years ago and recently a few have ask if I will post it again, so here it is for all to enjoy once again.  I used it in a plant, but you could attach a hanger and use as a cute ornament as well.  This is also a great beginner project and a great project to do with the little ones.  I have seen many artist create amazing things with new and used paint brushes.  I hope this inspires you to create a few creative brushes.  Enjoy!!

Naughty Fox In The Hen House!

1/15/2018

I found a naughty little Fox in the hen house over the weekend!   Foxy Loxy is up to his old tricks again.  It looks like the little chickens are besides them self with worry.  He thinks, if he sneaks down the chimney, they won't notice.  I think they noticed!!

Picture

Are the chickens trying to get in or out??  This pic shows both  sides of the chicken coop.  I constructed this piece using a paper mache house all using quikwood and lots of it!!

Picture
Picture

I'm not sure if you can tell by the pics, but this chicken house has an electric light inside, with the plug in the back.  It really looks nice all a glow.

Picture

I will be including this piece in this Thursdays Jan. 18th 10 am eastern time etsy sale and you can find details in the coming soon folder on the web-site under the store drop down menu.  I will try and get it up today.

Picture

I love telling my grandchildren fantasy stories and tales so this one has to have a happy ending.  Foxy Loxy didn't hurt any of the little chickens he just wanted to find a best friend.  Meet "Foxy Loxy's" new best friend Penny the chicken !!
This is a new piece in my "Pebble Pal" collection ©.  Yes it is constructed using several pebbles/rocks.  You can always find Foxy Loxy and Penny hanging out in the forest together.  Foxy Loxy is hanging out in the shade of the mushroom and Penny is just mushroom lounging!   This piece will also be included in the etsy sale this week.  You may even find a few foxy ornaments in the etsy sale.

Queen Of The Nut House!

1/11/2018

Oh how I am loving using my recyclables!!!  I think I might need to buy a storage shed to keep them all.  The members on the OldeMoonlane Primitves group page got to have a sneak Peek of the tree bark yesterday and several members commented their guesses as to the final creation.  I am calling this one "Queen Of The Nut House!"  I'm definitely the queen of my nut house lol!

I used the cardboard tube from the paper towel roll for the chimney form, the soda bottle for the main form and yes tissues to create my tree bark.  Note- they were NOT recycled tissues lol!

Picture
Once again my mind had flashes of many critters to make for the queen and I was even contemplating a real angel but in the end the mouse won out.  I think I have a thing for cute little mice.  She is adorning her gold crown, wings, gold necklace and moon wand.  The queen is holding her little owl friend complete with real mini acorn cap that I collected dried and sealed.   She has a tiny little bird nestled in her skirt which also functions a the roof of the house.  Queenie is looking over all of her forest friends guarding them well.

Picture

It took me some thinking as to what I wanted inside the tree, do I have squirrels with nuts , several animals came to mind but I decided to place a gnome with the real (dried and cured) acorns and a few tiny froggie friends inside the tree.  I kept thinking of a fox so I placed one looking around the tree with his acorn cap.  I almost made this a fox and a hen house theme.  Maybe, that will be for another day.

Picture

Well of course I had to make a mushroom and a tiny froggie perched in its shade.  I made the chimney to resemble limestone which is quite common here in PA.

Picture

This piece stands 16" tall.  I will be listing her in the etsy shop on January 18th 2018 at 10 am eastern time.  This piece took me 2 1/2 days to complete and tons of sculpting compound.  I usually add that as many ask how long did it take you to make this piece.  Most do not realize also the cost in sculpting compound I can have in a piece as well.

Note-  If you wish to view items going up for grabs on the 18th of this month in the etsy shop you can find them here on the web-site in the coming soon folder of the store.  I will try and get this one listed there today.  I get many inquiries on pieces I create and at times some comment wow that's a lot price wise.  Please understand some of the pieces in this etsy sale can have $30-$60 just in sculpting compound plus other supplies and that is at my cost for materials no mark up.  I can spend days on more detailed pieces so please keep that in mind.  I always say ask yourself how much do you get paid per hour?    Most times I am not even making minimum wage for my time.  I am what you call a starving artist!  I have had many students after taking classes comment "Wow I never realized" and  "You do not charge enough".  LOL!   It's all about the love of creating for me and making people smile so I try to keep my pieces reasonable.

Blessings!

Queen Bee's Honey Pot  "Piggy Bank"...

1/9/2018

Picture
I absolutely love bees and I really love Honey!  I usually have one or two cups of tea a day with fresh Honey from our farm.  Nothing like fresh Honey. I don't raise the bees myself as I am allergic to bees , but we have a bee farmer who farms them on our farm and gives us 2 gallons a year.   I was watching a show on bees the other night and did you know most of the Honey that is imported into the united States is watered down with syrup so your not getting 100% Honey.  The supply for Honey does not meet the consumption needs as well.  So, if you see a local farmer selling his Honey be sure and buy from him to get the real 100% pure Honey.  Sure it may be more expensive but if I was buying Honey I wouldn't want syrup-ed up honey.  I am very lucky to get fresh from our farm.

Picture

Since I am in a recycling mode I thought this container (Dog Biscuits) I used as a form would make a great Bee bank.  I really love creating these banks and I loved how it look more like a whimsical piece than a bank.  So you could use it as a decoration and no one would know it's a bank.

Picture

Of course I had to make her as a Queen Bee and she is saving all her pennies in her Honey Pot.  I placed a slot in the back and the head screws off to empty the bank.  This piece is fairly tall almost 17" and very weighty as I used a ton of sculpting compound.  This is a One Of A Kind Bank and it will "bee" hard for this bee lover to part with her, but I will be listing her with the other listings on January 18th 10 am eastern time.

I was going to give her eye lashes but my supply was out so I may yet we shall see and I think she may need some bling on that crown. hmmm.

Do You have a favorite recipe using Honey??  If so I would love to hear it.

I absolutely love seeing Trash recycled into treasures don't you??  I once again am always thinking outside of the box and looking for surfaces to use.  I used these three everyday household products to create some of the following treasures.

Picture
Picture
I used a everyday liquid dish soap container to make Princess Willow.  She's very tall and is holding her bow and arrow and yes they are sculpted.  She's very Fancy!

I have been dying for the last five years to make a few Money Banks. They will definitely be one of a kinds.   This little bird is saving his egg nest "pennies" for a rainy day .  Yes it is a BANK!!  I used a large Clorox container to create this piece.  This piece took a ton of sculpting compound and twenty hours to complete.  I believe I will try and make a few pet treat containers as well I am seeing a Golden Doodle Moses one in the future lol.

Out  With  The Old  And In With The New Year!

1/2/2018

It was great to take a much needed break to spend with my family for the Holidays!  I think sometimes we can get so wrapped up in  social media that we forget to stop and take time for those that are around you.  I don't know if I actually set New Years goals so to speak but I am going to try and be present more in own life and limit how much time I scroll FB.  Oh  I will be still scrolling just limiting myself.  It's really hard when you have so many art friends and you enjoy seeing all they are creating and I love seeing pictures of friends and family.  It's so easy to get caught up in the social media part that we forget to stop and smell the roses.  I really need to be more present.

Over the Holidays my two grand daughters were both in the hospital with the nasty virus that was going around.  I also ended up taking my husband to the hospital with other health issues.  It was quite the end to the year.  I want to be present for those that I love, so when hubby is home my goal is to set the phone aside haha!  I said I will try!   I am very goal oriented and very much a worker so sometimes its hard for me to just relax.  I am going to try!  Most of you know I try and answer messages ASAP or immediately that is still my goal but I will now do so between normal working hours.  I'm telling myself its ok if  I get a message in the evening during dinner I can return the message the next normal working hour day.    It's OK not to work Sundays.

Another goal you will notice is that I am branching out to travel teach a little more.  My 2018 travel schedule is already full and I am already getting inquiries for 2019-2020 so if your group wants to inquire please send me a message.  I am still limiting how many travels I do as I do still teach here at my home studio.

Every Year my grandchildren take a pic with this Santa at a Hotel they stay at on their journey to PA.

I had a few Christmas Pictures I was going to share but they vanished from my phone.  I think it's time for a new phone.

Picture

I started these two projects before they family arrived for the holidays and thought I would share .  I had so many positive comments on the bunny angel with the chick that I created "Queen Of Hearts"  I will be listing this item for sale in the etsy shop as soon as I get the chance as the family just left this morning and I need to get back into the groove.

Picture
"Some Bunny Loves You" is a cute valentine ornament I will also be listing in the etsy shop this week so keep watch.

For all those that inquired about classes for the New Year I am still waiting on a few to pick their projects for travel teaching and then I will begin listing classes for here at the OldeMoonlane Studio.  I usually don't begin classes until March/April as PA weather can still be wintry and snowy especially Jan and Feb.  I use those months as planning months and the dreaded tax gathering and book keeping months aggghhhh!!

Have a great day and don't forget to be present and find time to relax with those you love!
