This year I decided to make Christmas extra special! I have wanted to do a candy land theme for a long time for my front porch. I am hoping once my porch is decorated family and friend will maybe take their family Christmas pics. Kevin and I have been through so much in the last three years that I could write a book. Many of you have supported and followed us on our life changing journey. I am hoping this is my small way of paying it back to family and friends. Please Please feel free to use our porch for a Christmas Memory it would make our hearts happy.

This is just a small snipet of the journey in creating this piece. It took weeks to complete.
I began by sketching my gingerbread man design on my plywood. I'm a big freehand drawer. I used what I had laying around. I marked off my lines for my checks, wood burned all of my check lines for that added dimension.
I used quikwood for sculpting my features. I also recommend Apoxie Sculpt for larger projects as it is more economical and freeze thaw resistant.
The buttons were created using styrofoam covered in quikwood.
Now the fun part painting and making him come to life.
I sanded and rounded a large round styrofoam circle. I used old chair rods for the handle and quikwood over the foam. Next I mod podged and added glitter, wrapped it with cellophane and added a ribbon. I wish you could see how it all sparkles in person.

Now the messy not so fun part! I cut a PVC pipe the size I wanted and mixed up some quikrete. I filled the Old flower tubs 1/3 full. I wanted weight so they didn't blow over and off my windy porch.
To fill up the volume and so it wouldn't be to heavy for me to move I sprayed gaps and cracks and it took many cans (I lost count). Once set and dry I wrapped the pole using red duck tape for that candy cane look.
Lots of paper mache (I used my homemade secret recipe but you can find paper mache at the craft stores as well) and many many layers to create the swirl look. I forgot to get a pic but I did use a plastic hose underneath to fill some of the volume.
Next I painted and made pretty the cupcake and container.
Happy Holidays!
Blessings!
